Divorce Class for Parents with Minor Children
Parents, Children & Divorce is a four-hour class offered by the University of Florida/Hillsborough County Extension Service. Instructor: Diana Converse, M.S., Family Life Educator and Approved Divorce Educator in Florida.
This class is designed to help parents and children through the many experiences of divorce.

- 40%-50% of marriages end in divorce.
- 75% of children in the U.S. will spend part of their lives in a divided family.
- Second marriages are more likely to end than first marriages.
The State of Florida has by law established certain rules for offering parent education and family stabilization courses in Florida.
- Divorcing parents with minor children or a paternity action must take a minimum four hour course on the consequences of divorce for parents and children.
- The course includes information on legal issues, the emotional aspects of separation and divorce on adults and children, family relationships and dynamics, financial responsibilities to children, and information about child abuse/neglect and domestic violence.
- The course is educational and not intended to provide therapeutic or legal assistance. Providers will need to have contact information for several helping professionals in their community.
- Anyone offering a parent education course must be approved by the Department of Children and Families
